Waiakea Intermediate School is located in the Waiakea District of Hilo, on the eastern side of the island of Hawaii. Currently, there are over 50 teachers, 3 Counselors and 3 Administrators who provide a quality education to approximately 850 students. Waiakea Intermediate's school colors are purple & gold and we are known as the Titans.
Before attending our school the majority of our students attended Waiakea Elementary and Waiakeaweana Elementary. The two elementary schools feed into Waiakea Intermediate School, which is the only feeder school for Waiakea High School. The four schools comprise the Waiakea Complex. Waiakea Intermediate School is a Title I school that qualifies for Federal funding to assist in providing instructional programs, professional development for faculty and staff members, and advocates for school and family partnerships.
Some of the co-curricular activities offered by the faculty and staff are: Concert Band, Ukulele Band, VEX Robotics, Art Club, Builders Club and Track and Field. Students also have the opportunity to participate in Science Fair, Math Counts, Newbery Quiz Bowl, Geography Bee, Hikino Video Productions and Student Body or Class Government. Waiakea Intermediate Students consistently demonstrate excellence as evidenced by their outstanding achievements in many of the aforementioned activities.
