PROMOTION & FAILURE POLICY
To achieve promotion, students must take and pass the 4 core classes at each grade level each school year. The 4 core classes are: English, math, science, and social studies. This is in line with the Board of Education Policy 4502. Students who do not meet these specified promotion requirements shall be retained at their current grade level.
In addition to the 4 core classes, students will be provided the opportunity to take 2 elective units each year. Beginning with the 8th grade class of 2009-2010, each student will need 15 units to be promoted to the 9th grade, 12 of these units being core units earned in grades 6-8 and 3 being elective units.
Each student should have a minimum of 15 credits to be promoted to high school:
- three (3) in Language Arts
- three (3) in Social Studies
- three (3) in Mathematics
- three (3) in Science
- three (3) Electives
REPORT CARDS/ Student Progress Reports
Report cards are issued at the end of each quarter (9 weeks). The quarterly report cards are distributed for the students to hand carry home. Letter grades (A, B, C, D, F) indicate academic progress and numbers indicate teacher comments. Attendance is also reported. Take special note of the pattern of tardies and absences.
Honor Roll List
The Grade Point Average (GPA) is a means of indicating the overall academic progress of a student and is used to determine the Honor Roll List. Certificates are given to students who attain a GPA of 3.5 or higher. (A=4; B=3; C=2; D=1; F=0).
Mid-Quarter Progress Reports
Mid-quarter Progress Reports notices are issued to students each quarter. These notices are distributed halfway through each quarter. Parents are asked to sign the notice and have the student return the notice to their teacher.
